I Don't Like Pink Roses

Back to Full Blog

My first memory of childhood is from when I was about two years old.

I am running in circles in the living room of an apartment though I don't recall ever living in one when I was that young. When I am recalling this image I see myself running in front of a brown couch. The sun is shining brightly through the sliding glass door. A bedroom is off to the right.

My parents are yelling at each other.

I suppose at that age I was too young to know what was going on. I just kept running in my cirlces laughing. I see my mom on the couch with her hands outstretched towards me although she is not looking at me. She is looking up and past me. I guess she is keeping her arms out towards the floor incase I give in to gravity and fall to the floor. For the moment, she is letting me be a typical two-year-old.

This is a strange first memory to have I guess, one of your parents arguing. However I suppose this image basically sets up the rest of my life.

Hi Jaded & welcome to the Stream!!

I can't really recall much from when I was very young & have no idea why.

I like yours of running in circle laughing. That's exactly what a two year old should be doing!

Welcome & keep on writing....

With that first post being said...

My very first memory...

(now which came first?)....I'm three and throwing a fit on the kitchen floor...I want to go with my mom to the store. I get left behind with dad and later...as good fortune/destiny should have it, my mom is rammed into...ON THE PASSENGER SIDE )....and so even if I wasn't a pancake..I might have been tossed out the windshield!

Now just on sheer impact, I would have been a goner...but this was also 1965 and we little brats didn't HAVE to wear seatbelts!! (any of you oldies but goodies out there feel me!?

So what "imprint" does that leave in my psyche?

"LEARN THIS LESSON EARLY...SOMETIMES IT'S A CASE OF UNANSWERED PRAYER..YEH, SOMETIMES THE ANSWER IS "NO!" AND IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! THE ANSWER WILL NOT ALWAYS BE WHAT YOU WANT OR 'YES'!!! NOW GET OFF THAT FLOOR...STOP THROWING YOUR TEMPER TANTRUM AND GET ON WITH LIFE! BE THANKFUL, BE GRATEFUL!"

I've often forgotten that lesson mind you...I'm a spirit having a human experience and sometimes it takes 20,000 times before a lesson is actually learned!

But I continue to try...

And I continue to cry and spin around on the floor yanging and whining from time to time...

But then I realize why the answer is what it is and that I need to get up off the floor, dust myself off, say thank you to the universe and get on with life....

THANKS JADED FOR PROMPTING THIS MEMORY AND THOUGHTS THAT GO WITH IT!

I wonder if our first memories really DO have a lot to do with our over all future perceptions on life, how we tackle life, what we bring into our lives etc...

Much to think about, but now it's time to get on with other things...

PS)My mom was o.k., just had a sore back for years after....

Secret, thanks for the comment. I'm not sure why most of us have no recollections of our early childhood. Perhaps the mind is not developed for memory yet.

Rubble, I think that maybe our early memories can perhaps affect the way we perceive things. I know that things that happened in my childhood definitely do. That's a very scary first memory you have. The good thing is that your mom was ok! It's strange how we have near-misses like that. It makes you wonder 'what if?' and then you have to wonder why you did not get in the car. Maybe there are great plans for you! :)
